How to Create Configurable Products in Magento

Follow these Four Simple Steps to create Configurable Products in Magento

In every e-commerce site, the products are the main center of attention. It’s what attracts the customers thus, every detail is important. Being able to properly display your products with their information to your customers is the sole purpose of being an e-commerce business. If you want to get ahead of the game, Magento is one of the world’s best e-commerce solutions and it’s especially easy with Configurable Products in Magento.

When adding products to your database on Magento, you  will be presented with the option to create Simple Product or Complex Product. Simple products are  sold as only one type and do not have variables whereas complex products can be classified as Group Products, Configurable Products or Cross-Sell Products.

If you’re selling products that have variable attributes like size or color, you’ll need to create configurable products. In Magento, configurable products are seen as a group or collection of simple products that are related. However, each product has a unique SKU and inventory listing.

That being said, it’s time to log into the Magento admin panel and get started on creating those configurable products.

Step 1: Creating Attributes for Configurable Products in Magento

These will be configurable by the user. On the main menu select Catalog>Attributes>Manage Attributes and click on Add New Attribute. This lets you create variations for the configurable products.

After being redirected to the New Product Attribute page, in the left-hand menu, click on the Properties tabs to start creating new product attributes. Then, click on Manage Label/Options and start selecting the different variables for the attributes. Don’t forget to click the Save Attribute button on the top right corner.
